Commercial vs. Residential Taxes in Sobieski

Why are Commercial properties in the Town of Sobieski being taxed at $8,900 per acre, while residential properties are being taxed at $22,600 as of our recent assessment?

Also there is a Bar in Little Suamico, its land is assessed at just under $18,000 per acre, while all Bars in Sobieski are situated on land assessed at $8,900 per acre.

Another New Fire Truck

Currently our Town Board consists of David Pribyl, Douglas Allen, and the tiebreaker, (Elmer Ragen). About a month ago at a Board Meeting these 3 approved another new fire truck which was not even a ladder truck. They actually wrote a check for $730,000 to pay in advance for a truck that we will not even see for another 1-2 or 3 years. What will happen when the market changes?_____ And they have the gall to tell you our taxes won’t go up. My taxes on my home, with no improvements went up $169.03 for year 2022. How much did yours go up?_____ What about next year?

Thomas Way, R.O.W.

A couple years back at least 50 Nero Lane people came to a Board Meeting to voice their opinion on a ROW that the township said they owned on Thomas Way just off of Nero. This ROW was packed between two homes, 66′ wide by about 140′ long. It was connecting Thomas Way with a forty owned by a third party to the west. It was a small wooded parcel sitting there not being used (ever). Here is where the problem starts, to the west of the third party forty was a development that now bought that original forty and wants that ROW to have easy access to the HWY.
Years ago that strip of land could have been divided up between the two homeowners to the N and S. But the Town’s intention was to hand it over to the Developers for whatever reason. In the mean time it has costed the Nero people (mainly one couple) thousands of dollars and hours to try to get this ROW closed down to keep away all the extra traffic from accessing Thomas Way, through Nero to the HWY.

The current Town Board which consists of, Elmer Ragen, Dave Pribyl and Douglas Allen, could have fixed this problem a long time ago if they wanted to with almost no cost to the people.

Its not too late, all the Nero people have to do is ask!!

Frank Nowak who is currently running for Town Chairperson ” and ” Supervisor, spent countless hours at the Courthouse and a Title Company trying to figure out who legally owns this strip of Land. Frank say’s (after much research) the original Developer of Thomas Way (King Estates with about 10 lots abandoned the strip of land over 20 years ago). The town was never deeded this property. So it now goes equally to the property owners to the north and south of said strip of land. No one is able to prove Frank wrong.

You would think that our current Town Board would at least try.

Three (3) Minute Comments

The current Town Board consists of Chairman-Elmer Ragen, Supervisors- Dave Pribyl and Douglas Allen.

When a Town Board Meeting is posted, it says “open meeting”. This means that you may attend, sit and listen, but shut up. Just ask Mark Fischer. Yet the state Attorney Generals Office says we are striving for “Transparency”. If this is true, why did Douglas Allen make a motion which was seconded by Dave Pribyl and approved by Elmer Ragen to “Cancel” the 3-minute comments by the towns electors? Maybe they did not want to listen to what the towns people had to say! This was done March 13,2017 at a monthly Town Board Meeting. Check the minutes.

By the way, if you are an employee of this township this ruling does not apply and you will get a response by the Town Board to boot.

There was no reasoning for the 3-minute comment cancellation, ask Elmer, Dave Pribyl, or Douglas Allen. By the way there is no real, 3-minute rule, the time limit if any, is dictated by the Chairperson. These three don’t know the rules and don’t really care.

The bridge in Little Suamico

Almost $1,000,000 was spent on the new Bridge in Little Suamico. No one wanted or needed this bridge, not even the one person that lives next to the bridge. The bridge is located on Grosse Road in the middle of nowhere.

Ask Elmer who paid for this Bridge? Or was the $ just pulled out of our a$$.

Our town clerk said at a Board meeting that because of the new bridge we were running out of money, the next thing we knew everyone’s property was being re-assessed early. How would you like it if your taxes went from $6,700 per year to $15,000 per year with no new improvements?_____. By the way this very short Road in Little Suamico is still to this day only about 50′ wide. Our Town Road Ordinance states 66′ wide. There was always easy access to Cty. J from the North and South side of the old walking bridge.
